MJC to host 61st Annual Future Farmers of America Field Day

(Modesto, CA) It is competitive, it is educational, and it is a long standing Modesto Junior College agricultural tradition at its best! It is the 61st Annual Future Farmers of America Field Day hosted by the MJC Agriculture & Environmental Sciences Division and Young Farmers. The Field Day is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2014.

The FFA Field Day attracts over 1,500 high school students from over 100 high schools across the State of California who will vie for the top award in 17 agriculture career development events. The career development events include ag mechanics, agronomy, best informed greenhand, dairy cattle judging, farm business management, farm power and machinery, farm record book, floriculture, fruit tree, job interview, livestock judging/livestock judging novice, milk quality and dairy foods, nursery/landscape, poultry judging, small engines and vegetable crop judging.

The Field Day will commence at 7:30 a.m. at various sites on both the East and West Campuses of MJC. An exciting awards ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. in the MJC Gymnasium.

Participating in this event provides an opportunity for future agriculture leaders to practice the FFA motto of “Learning To Do.”

“By tradition, the MJC Field Day has a reputation for being one of the best FFA Field Days of the year,” said Mark Anglin, dean of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. “Most coaches and contestants agree that the MJC Field Day is a FFA State Finals level, competitive learning experience. The Agriculture staff and students look forward to it each year and take great pride in providing the best venue possible for FFA members to hone their skills.”
