Kate Serpa does not live in Modesto, CA, nor does she attend court-reporting school. She has not played for the piano for a number of years and she is definitely not excited about helping out at the McHenry Museum. She detests drinking, bar hopping, and late night adventures, and thinks girls who dye their hair red are disgraceful. She has absolutely zero sense of humor and is boring as hell.
BarView – Last Call
Last Call By Kate Serpa Photos by Philip Johnson So I’ve got good news and bad news. Bad news is this will be my last ModestoView BarView (cue: boo, hiss). Good news is that Phil and I have chosen our three favorite stops for this last stumble, and as I’m currently eyeballs-deep in the good […]
BarView – Twisted Pig
The Twisted Pig Bar and Grill By Kate Serpa Photos by Phil Johnson The Twisted Pig: The last thing you should probably call your girlfriend this evening, but the first place you should be taking her to for dinner. I thought Phil and I were going to have to have an ‘adult’ conversation when, in […]
BarView – Happy Firkin Valentine
Happy Firkin Valentine’s Day! By Kate Firkin Serpa Photos by Phil Johnson Did you freaking see that Modesto ranked #8 on the ten most boring cities in California to live? EIGHTH? Eighth place means no medals, no trophies, no good. Eighth place doesn’t even get us a sympathetic pat on the back. The survey was […]
BarView – Healthy Drinking
BarView By Kate Serpa Photos by Philip Johnson Trotting Towards Health: Greens on Tenth I have a healthy family. They enjoy running; I enjoy sandwiches. Their idea of a fun vacation involves outdoorsy hikes; I would rather sleep in. They say, “Egg white omelet?” Negative — I vote mimosas and bacon. When I think ‘running, […]
BarView – Quoth the Raven
BarView – Dewz Restaurant By Kate Serpa “Quoth the raven: ‘I’ll have just one more” Photos by Philip Johnson You can’t steal my idea, but I basically have the perfect Halloween costume for this year: Edgar Allen Hoe. I’m thinking black dress, black boots, tasteful push-broom mustache, and a raven on my shoulder for panache. […]
BarView – Veni, Vidi, Vino, Vito’s
BarView Veni, Vidi, Vino, Vito’s By: A lushed out Kate Serpa Photos: Philip Johnson The 4th of July is the ultimate drunk girl of all the calendar holidays. Respectable, reasonable holidays have the decency to come at the mid or end of the month — they give you something to look forward to, and give […]
BarView – Life Gave Me Lemons when I Specifically Ordered Beer
BarView By Kate Serpa Photos by Phil Johnson If April showers bring May flowers, then Mayflowers bring — well, probably a boatload of rats, scurvy, buckled hats, and is loosely responsible for the American Revolutionary War (even though it took place over a hundred years later, but you get what I’m saying). You can’t get […]
BarView – Tap Room
BarView New Year, New Bar: The Tap Room By Kate Serpa Photos by Philip Johnson You see, my problem with New Years is the whole bit about resolutions. Around the 1st, people expect us to have some life-affirming statement as to what we’re planning on changing to better ourselves for the upcoming year. When someone […]
