It’s nearly 8 pm on a Monday and I’m watching the Sunset from the veranda of the Queen Bean Coffee House. As the glowing orb of orange slides behind the church across the street I’m reminded in a month this will happen an hour earlier without the trick of the changing the clock. Sliding into the rhythm of September without losing the momentum of Summer can be tricky.

The welcome of an earlier sunset along with the slowly cooling temperatures may throw your routine off. But the one thing the Fall Solstice shouldn’t do is make you reconsider your dedication to fun over of a few dollars. One of the signature events in Modesto returns on September 4th. The Edible Extravaganza celebrates its 28th anniversary raising money for the Center for Human Services and their family and youth programs. From 6-9 pm at the Centre Plaza you are welcomed to sample the finest from over 50 restaurants and wineries while enjoying 2 stages of music. Reception at 5 pm. This charitable cause is a great deal! $40 presale /$50 door.

The night time is the right time for music and Barking Dog Grill continue to welcome some of the greatest musical talent alongside an outstanding menu. On September 12th, The Northern California Women’s Music Festival is setting up residence for one night only with their feature, “A Night of Music” to raise money for local women’s events and charities. Don’t miss a chance to see some of the area’s most talented female musicians including local favorites Patty Castillo Davis, Victoria Boyington and Mattea Overstreet among many more. Support a great cause!

Culture shock doesn’t have to happen unless you let it. If you often entertain the idea of seeing the Ballet but can’t tear yourself away from the outdoors, then there is a solution tailored just for you! Central West Ballet hosts their Annual free event Ballet in the Park at Graceda on September 13th at 7 pm. It is an all ages show and perfect for everyone.

Great architecture is hard to come by but rest assured you won’t miss a thing! The 7th Annual Modesto International Architecture Festival returns from 9/13-9/21 with a myriad of events including a film festival. Among the offerings are lectures with renowned international architects, walking tours of the area and an overall celebration of the finest in Modern Architecture.
