There’s no rain but it’s hardly a reason to be blue. Leave being blue to the gorgeous sky that graces Downtown Modesto. Ms. M finds herself writing this afternoon amid the newly green trees while watching a family enjoy the beautiful day walking with their children. One of the few joys and loves in life is taking in the small things that money rarely can buy. Here are a handful of ways to enjoy the loves of life with those you love this February.

Poets truly know how to speak the language of love for all to enjoy! Take in the 4th annual Modesto Poetry Festival on February 6th from 9am to 4pm. This all day event features workshops, a luncheon and poetry contest. There’s nothing like the dust to remind you of the past. Too often we forget that the heritage of the Central Valley is seeded in it’s western roots of ranching. Re-examine and experience ranching at the Carnegie Arts Center with Allen Birnbach’s “A Handful of Dust” starting February 10th. Celebrate Chinese New Year by letting your inner spirit animal loose. The 10th annual Chinese New Year Celebration welcomes in the Year of the Monkey on February 13th at the Senior Center in Modesto. There’s nothing quite like Art to brighten spirits and celebrate love of life. Check out 3rd Thursday Art walk in Modesto on February 18th. This is the 12th year the monthly free event has been celebrating visual arts in Modesto. Art Walk runs 5-9pm every 3rd Thursday of the month. For one day only the Gallo Arts Center welcomes ballet’s best-loved princesses and princes in two enchanted performances of classical favorites. Brigham Young University’s Theatre Ballet dances into the heart of Modesto to bring your favorite childhood stories to life in Fairy Tales and Fantasy on February 27th at 2pm & 7pm. The BYU Ballet invites all to attend their pre-show Prince and Princess Party where anyone can dress up as princes and princesses, meet and snap pictures with the dancers before the performance.
