FOOD, DRINK & COFFEE
Sometimes, you need to get out of the downtown area and sometimes you want to be walking distance to your job. We are currently featuring some great downtown restaurants that reward the early risers of our fine city. If you are a morning regular or you are just visiting Modesto, here are some great places that are winners. ModestoView.com has researched these places in great detail so that you are all set to go. Here is what we have learned.

Aqua Shi

Cool urban vibe, excellent sushi, exotic cocktails and so much more.
This place has really changed the way Modesto enjoys a restaurant. From the leather couches and the fish tank bars and the dining in the round, there is a new bar that has been set for Modesto dining. You can enjoy a asian style entree, or you can have a pork with spicy chile sauce or just maybe, you can do round after round of sushi and specialty rolls. Aqua Shi is now open for lunch, and there is the coolest conference room in town. The sushi bar is open late until 2 am along with the cocktail lounge. Check it out.

COCKTAILS
Ok, there is always time to find a place to get a quick cocktail, or better yet, sit for a while and enjoy your cocktails. There is a really nice place that is just right. The Speakeasy on 12th Street is a vision in red and is a nice little get away. The bartenders are nice and they mix some really good drinks. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights feature entertainment and there are new booth seating and more places to chill. You can order food from adjacent restaurants if you are so inclined. Cool, red and dark with a hint of jazz makes for a good place to be, whether you are alone or with friends.

COFFEE

The Queen Bean
You walk up to the this restored house on the corner of 14th and L and you walk inside to a comfortable wonderful coffee world. They have a drive through and are open until midnight on Friday and Saturday with piano music. Huge comfy leather chairs and couches are all over and the staff is very freindly and informative to the newer coffee drinkers.

I ordered a Quad Breve Latte, A classic combination of four big fat freshly pulled espresso shots blended with fresh steamed half and half.. The coffee that they use is excellent and not burned(charred) like Starbucks. It is so nice to have a smooth espresso taste and beautiful rich creama, and best of all, the sound of a blender does not dominate the air. Nice pancakes and an excellent sandwich menu. The old converted house is well decorated and very comfortable with a living room and dining room with rich leather chairs. A perfect coffee. 14th and L Streets.
