Fly Fishing and Local Veteran Support-April 25

SUPPORTYOUR LOCAL VETERANS!

The Stanislaus Fly Fishers and Rivers of Recovery are proud to invite you to The 5th annual Fly Fishing Film Tour presented by COSTA April 25, 6 pm at the State Theatre in Modesto, CA! All proceeds will directly benefit RIVERS OF RECOVERY, the non-profit organization serving combat disabled veterans through rehabilitative fly fishing adventures!

This year, Rivers of Recovery is proud to host trips beginning in March on the South Holston and Watauga Rivers in Tennessee, the Arkansas River in Salida, Colorado, the Yakima River in Gig Harbor, Washington, and the Lower Sacramento River in Redding, California.

We thank all of you who have supported Rivers of Recovery in the past and encourage you to view our website to view the positive results of our unique psychological research, videos featuring Rivers of Recovery on “Hannity”and the personal experiences of decorated Iraq veterans and Rivers of Recovery alumni (turned stellar fly fishing guides) Justin Clenard and Edgar Duffey! Our Facebook page also provides on the river trip updates and blogs by Tennessee host and native Edgar Duffey. Thanks, Ed!

Attached please find a 2013 pledge card which shows the many ways you can support our veterans through Rivers of Recovery. Many of you have previously and generously sponsored at the $2000 level. We hope that you will consider continuing at the same level this year. However, any amount will be put to the most efficient use. As you are aware, we have many veterans who have returned from the Gulf and who are now returning from Afghanistan who can greatly benefit from our programs.

For those of you who choose to sponsor a veteran’s scholarship at the $2000 level, we will provide you or your company on screen and website recognition, an Ex Officio Rivers of Recovery fishing shirt, Simms hat, 6 movie tickets and 6 raffle tickets (Sage Fly Rods, Lower Sac Float by The Fly Shop, hand tied flies and more—–we are still seeking donation of raffle items). Sponsors will also receive 1 of 52 cards for a special drawing for a two days guided fly fishing and three night stay at the recently completed ROR Arkansas River Lodge in Salida, Colorado! Individual cards may be purchased for $100.00

We are off to a great start as we already have commitments for 5 scholarships! Last year, local donations exceeded $70,000 and we hope to exceed that amount this year!

Also attached is a photograph of Rivers of Recovery alumnus Arnold Cornell who unfortunately passed away earlier this year. Arnie was fondly referred to as “The Marine from Queens,” and was a highly decorated Vietnam veteran of the battle of Dak To. In his honor, we will be designating a local veteran scholarship for the person who embodies the incredulous humor and zest for life that was exhibited by Arnie! For those who knew him, enough said! Let’s make a special effort to support this annual award!

Finally, a special thanks to the continuing support of the Stanislaus Fly Fishers and our past and future contributors for their steady support of our local veterans! Please come and enjoy great new fly fishing films, raffle prizes and best of all, show your support for those who have served their country so bravely!

Sincerely,

Jim Mayol Chairman, Rivers of Recovery
