Modesto Grand Prix Racing Through Downtown Next Weekend

Road closures and no parking zones in and around Downtown Modesto beginning as early Tuesday

The City of Modesto, in partnership with SuperkartsUSA! will be hosting the First Annual Modesto Grand Prix presented by SaveMart Supermarkets from Friday, August 1-Sunday August 3, 2014. Close to 300 drivers, their teams, and families will descend upon Modesto’s downtown and will race the streets at the heart of the city at speeds of up to 100mph! This is one of the City’s biggest new events and will require much preparation, road closures and no parking zones before, during, and after the event. Specific closures are outlined below. Please plan your travels accordingly from Tuesday, July 29th until after the event tear down is complete Tuesday, August 5. You can avoid no parking zones and traffic detours altogether by finding alternative modes of transportation, such as public transit, bicycling or walking! Entrances to the Modesto Grand Prix presented by SaveMart Supermarkets will be on 10th between J and K Streets, on I street between 9th and 10th Streets and on I Street between 12th and 13th Streets. Everyone will be sure to find something that interests them in the extensive expose surrounding the race course and 2 pedestrian bridges will guarantee easy access to it all. The Family Fun Zone will be on 10th and J Streets complete with bounce houses and other fun activities for the whole family. Look for 51 Fifty’s Race for Autism trailer featuring their race car. There will be a car show on I Street near the 9th Street entrance as well as one of the five (5) beer gardens featured around the festival. Further down I Street, in front of the courthouse, there will be a non-profit expose featuring voluntary organizations committed to furthering cultural, educational, professional and public service objectives. Located across the street will be the premiere Coldhouse Vodka Tent, featuring cocktails, beer, and other non-alcoholic beverages with an exciting corner view! Foodies will enjoy the variety of restaurants offering specials throughout the event as well as the food vendor booths along J Street. Other vendors can be found on 11th and 12th Streets. The festival will also include 3 jumbo TVs and nearly 200 concert-style speakers streaming the race live, so no matter where you are in the festival, you are likely to have a prime view of the race! Modesto Grand Prix tickets include access to the Modesto Grand Prix race and Festival Areas. Tickets are available for $10 per day presale through Friday, August 1st ($15/day walk-up) and kids 10 and under are FREE. Specific Road Closure Information: Beginning Wednesday, July 30, 12:30am: I Street between 10th and 12th Streets will be closed until Monday, August 4 at 6:00am. 11th Street between M and I Streets, L Street between 12th and 10th Streets, and 13th Street between K and J Streets will be closed until Tuesday, August 5 at 6:00am. Beginning Thursday, July 31, 12:30am: K Street between 9th and 13th Streets will be closed until Monday, August 4 at 6:00am and 10th Street between J and I Streets will be closed until Tuesday, August 5 at 6:00am. Beginning Thursday, July 31, 6:00pm: J Street between 12th and 13th Streets and 12th Street between I and J Streets will be closed until Monday, August 4 at 6:00am and 10th Street between J and K Streets, 11th Street between J and K Streets and J Street between 10th and 11th Streets will be closed until Tuesday, August 5 at 6:00am.
