And on to Fall & the Holidaze we go. Button up your overcoats and find that old umbrella you’re going to need pretty soon. Plenty to do this month before we come together with family and friends to cool the goose on thanksgiving and then on to the frenzied pace of Christmas & merriment to be had. So here’s to the changing of the seasons, harvest festivals, daylight saving, waking up in the dark, and the last days of the farmers markets.

Thank all of you that came out for the Latin explosion Blue Monday last month with Gustavo Ramirez, Carlos Caro and Danilo Pais, it was smoking. Blue Monday Invitational Jam returns to the Barkin’ Dog Grill this Nov 13thth with hosting the jam House band Ultra Lounge, Johnny Valdes guitar, Tim Allen bass, vocals, Dave Hawks on drums, Horns Kevin Marin, and Marty Martinez, and John Burt Sax, Dave Dow and yours truly Eric Benson on Keys. We will be playing some Latin, Jazz, Funk, and a little of everything else. Show from 7 to 10 PM with food and drink available in an all age venue. Call the Dog for reservations: 572-2341. If you play, come on down and sit in with the best musicians in the area, or to listen and dance, it’s gonna’ be smoking!

While on the Latin side of things James Dubberly Trombonist, arranger is bringing in a quintet of great players on Sunday Nov 5th at 2 PM featuring the Dharma Latin Jazz Quintet at Moon & Six Pence music venue. . The band features; Carlos Caro, David Pinto, Randy Sandoli, Brian Anores and leader James Dubberly. The venue is located 500, 9th street.

The Barkin’ Dog Grill’s all age venue has some great shows in all age venue coming up. The lineup for Nov features: 3rd David Dow & Friends, 4th Patty Castillo & Friends, 5th Penny & Wendell White Fundraiser, 10th Hot Club Faux Gitane, 11th North County Blue Grass Band, 13th Blue Monday Party, 14th Tuesday Poetry/Gillian Wegener, 16th Art walk, 17th Valley Jazz Company, 18th Gary Gervase Blues Band, 24th Fall risk Blues Band, and 25th Highway 99 Band. And Dave Dow your friendly neighborhood pianist host’s the every Thursday night Jazz jam session. CRITICS CHOICE; Penny & Wendell White Fun-raiser will features some on Modesto’s best musicians playing for a good cause in honor of two great musicians we have lost recently.
The Gallo Center goes with some holiday themes coming up as well as the music. Nov 5thCompany Men, 10th & 11th MSO with tribute Copland & Gershwin, 12th Petula Clark, 17th Lisa Davila Townsend Opera, and 25th Texas Tenors. And before tickets are scarce in December; 18th Dave Koz Christmas, 19th winddam Hill Winter Solstice, 20th Brian Setzer Big Band Christmas Show.
Off the beaten path the Newman Theatre brings in The China Cats greatfully Dead Tribute Nov 11th and Dec 1st Antsy McClain with the Trailer Park Troubadours. Well worth the drive to the historic theatre venue in Newman.
Come back out for Third Thursday Art Walk 5 to 9:00 PM for some great art and music in the downtown! Lowdown on the jam session in the downtown: Queen Bean Sundays open mike night also in an all age environment.
