News From Megan Slankard
I just sent my first CD to Disc Makers to get duplicated!!
I'm so excited!
It's just my bass player and I 13 of my originals.
It's very raw sounding, I recorded in my living room, so it's
not perfect. . . But hey, it's my first CD, it dosen't have
to be:)
Thanks for all your support! Cheers, Megan
P.S. I have other semi-good news: I entered a performing
songwriter contestsponsored by Musician's Atlas magazine and
Borders nationwide, and I justfound out that I qualified as
a semi-finalist!
Megan is playing on July 19th at P Wexfords, the 21st at
X Fest and the 27th at Borders. Check her out.
Hello Modesto View from Rage Enterprises.
I think the MAMA association, and this website are a great
resource for local musicians. Its exciting after so many years
to see so much support for local music. I wanted to send in
some information about what we are doing at Rage Enterprises.
We are still working on the local compilation, Center of
the State, which we will be releasing on our new label, Driven
Records. It has thirteen bands, the confirmed bands are Built,
Feed, Infestation, Two o Nine, Unknown Statue, Statik, Element
8, Vile Desent, ButterFace, Three Fold, and a bonus track
from Depswa. All the bands are from the 209 area code. The
compilation is intended to showcase the many talented artists
coming from our area and rather then primarily being sold
will be shopped to different labels, promoters, clubs, and
media in areas such as San Francisco, LA, and Sacramento where
it is harder for Modesto bands to get shows. The album should
be finished in August and we are planning a large outdoor
event for the CD Release party.
We will be be applying for a non profit status for Rage Enterprises.
Our mission is to use music as a way to reach kids and help
keep them off the streets and away from drugs and alcohol.
We want to raise awareness that all music is an artform, even
if its not mozart and your parents hate it. We will continue
to coordinate shows and it will also allow us to concentrate
more time on building the new label.
We are booking at an all ages club in Brisbane, just 10 minutes
South of San Francisco for Wednesday nights throughout July,
August, and September. Once the band plays a weeknight and
gets a good response they will be eligible to play a weekend.
Any bands that would like to be considered can call (209)524-3979
or email rageenterprises@hotmail.com.
In late July we will be putting out a small quarterly magazine
called The Local Underground. We would like to encourage anyone
in the local music community to submit material for artwork,
design, band/CD/show reviews, editorials and pictures. Submissions
can be mailed to

Mid August will see the return of two of Modesto's favorite
bands, Depswa and Luxt. Depswa will be bringing Los Angeles
Hydrovibe a band that has played all over the nation and opened
for bands like (hed)pe, Static X, Taproot, Drain S.T.H., Simon
Says, and Soulfly. Opening the show will be Butterface, a
punk/metal band who are creating a huge buzz in the local
scene. On their first night back after a two year hiatus they
completely sold out and filled to capacity both the interior
and parking lot of the Dirty Duck. In coordination with the
infamous ZAW Wrestling promoter Dave Ussery, we will be doing
a show out in Los Banos at the community art center in the
beginning of August with Built and Laquer.
August 17th we are working on a show with Dr. Know, The OOzies,
The Sick, and STFU.
In closing, Rage Enterprises is looking for two interns,
anyone interested in music, looking for experience or a job
reference is encouraged to apply. Call (209)524-3979 for more
information.
Well thanks for taking the time to read all of that and have
a great week.

There is some really cool news rumbling in downtown Modesto
for live music, stay tuned.
Clubbing
Moonshine's, Joe Duarte's club scheduled to open this summer,
has changed their name to Fat Cats. This is going to be the
super red crushed velvet bordello kind of look that we shall
truly dig. Can't wait.
X Fest Is maXXed
There are over 80 bands booked for X-fest and the schedules
are all booked up. There will be non-stop music all day from
4 till 11:30. Check out the site http://www.modestoxfest.com
for all the scoop.
Vinnie Smith on The Silver Screen
Hey, check it out. Vinnie Smith's music is being played at
the Signature theaters all over the valley. Now he will be
a video star. They will be showing his video on the screens
before the movies and this will be a great thing. Vinnie is
fun live and his video should be a hoot too.
The Ultimate Skateboard
On July 28th, The Ultimate Skateboard will be returning to
Weber's Point in Stockton for the first time since their New
Year's Eve performance that landed them on KCRA's 6 o'clock
news. There will be a huge lineup of bands for this outdoor
show. Details on that show and others can be found at http://www.norcalmusic.com,
where you can also find out how to get the local music compilation
CD featuring their song "Try to Hold". Don't forget
to catch The Ultimate Skateboard on the Carnival Stage at
X Fest at 6pm!
