MJC Friends of Music present a Faculty Recital

(Modesto, CA) –The Modesto Junior College Friends of Music concert series will present a Faculty Recital on Thursday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the MJC Music Recital Hall on East Campus, 435 College Avenue in Modesto.

 

The concert will open with a performance of Bach’s Chaconne by David Chapman, professor of guitar. He will then join forces with Professor Travis Silvers to present a guitar duet by Castelnuovo Tedesco.

 

The program will also feature John Hillebrandt performing his original composition, Transcendental Hymn Fantasies for piano and Duana Demus, soprano.  Demus has performed with international opera stars such as Placido Domingo and Ruth Ann Swenson.  She will present classics including selections from Aida by Verdi.

 

The concert will conclude with the five-movement Suite for Oboe, Clarinet and Viola by American composer Randall Thompson.  Faculty members Robert Scott, clarinet, and Anne Martin, viola, will be joined by special guest Christine Carr on oboe.

 

Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for students and seniors (62 and better).  Advance tickets are available Tuesday through Friday, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at the Auditorium Box Office, or by calling (209) 575-6776 during Box Office hours.  Tickets will also be available in the Music Recital Hall beginning 90 minutes prior to the concert.

 

The community is invited to join the campus for an evening of chamber music, with concert proceeds used to support the programs of the MJC Music Department and provide music student scholarships.
