MJC Offers Warehousing, Logistics and Forklifts Training

MJC offers training courses in warehousing logistics and forklifts

Warehousing and distribution facilities are growing at a rapid rate in the Stanislaus and San Joaquin County area, and these industries seek workers who have the skills to hit the ground running. In response to this growing demand, Modesto Junior College’s Workforce Development and Community Education are offering training for entry-level positions in warehousing.

Students can prepare for Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certification Level I or Level 2. Successful students earn the nationally recognized MSSC Certificate for Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) or Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) Certificate. Course competencies include warehousing operations, information technology, inventory control systems, powered industrial equipment, order processing, evaluation of transportation modes, measurements and metric conversions, and safety.

The CLA and CLT training will be held Wednesdays, March 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 7 – 10 p.m. in Sierra Hall, Room 114, on West Campus. Online work outside of class is required for the CLA/CLT course. The course cost is $400 for either CLA or CLT training and the registration deadline is February 18. CLA certification is required prior to CLT enrollment. Online work outside of class is required for the CLA and CLT courses.

A Scan Guns and Inventory Control Systems training course is being offered with a choice of two dates: Saturday, February 21, from 8 a.m. – 12 noon, or Saturday, March 14 from 8 a.m. – 12 noon. These classes are also held in Sierra Hall, Room 114, on West Campus and the cost is $125.

Students will learn inventory control in a simulated warehouse environment, including scan gun operations, inventory turnover, physical inventory compared to cycle counting, negative inventory, auto ordering, movement of product on the floor and relationships to product shipped.

The Lift Truck and Safety Training provides practical hands-on experience with sit-down, narrow-isle forklifts and other material handling equipment. The class will include classroom instruction and examination of OSHA 1910.178 regulations for powered industrial trucks. Successful students will receive a Powered Industrial Equipment Training Completion Card.

The Lift Truck & Safety course will be offered on two dates: Saturday, February 28, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. or on Saturday, March 7, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Both classes will be taught in Sierra Hall, Room 206, on West Campus and the cost is $230.
