Community invited to Petey Pirate’s Birthday Bash at MJC

(Modesto, CA) – Avast ye maties! The community is invited to join the campus for Petey Pirate’s Birthday Bash in celebration of Modesto Junior College’s 92nd year. The Modesto Junior College Foundation and Associated Students of Modesto Junior College (ASMJC) will host a birthday celebration for the college’s mascot Petey Pirate on Thursday, September 19, 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on the East Campus Quad, 435 College Avenue.

ASMJC will offer barbecued hot dogs and MJC Foundation will serve birthday cake. There will also be a “Talk Like a Pirate” contest. MJC first held classes on September 19 in 1921, and more recently this date has become known as International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

“This is a celebration of three things,” said George Boodrookas, executive director of the MJC Foundation. “First, it’s MJC’s 92nd Anniversary. Second, it’s our mascot’s birthday. And, third, there really is an International Talk Like a Pirate Day! What’s not to like about this celebration? We invite students, employees, alumni and friends to join us at MJC on this special day!”

The event is free and on campus parking is available for $1 in student parking lots. For more information on Petey Pirate’s Birthday Bash contact the MJC Foundation at 575-6068.
