TravelView – Pueblo Bonito

Travel View Flying South By Efren Martinez

Many of my friends know just as the first signs of Fall start to appear in September I start to make my way down south for the winter. I just don’t care for the cold weather nor the shorter days that come along with daylight savings time. I try to frequent the warmer Clements of Mexico as mush as possible during our cold California winters. One of my first and favorite stop’s is generally to Pueblo Bonito at Emerald Bay in Mazatlan. But before I move on, let me set the record strait. Mexico is a safe and a beautiful vacation destination. In fact the only thing I’ve ever had to worry about in my travels there was, a giant Iguana crossing my path during my morning runs around the resort. Since 2006 my wife and I have been enjoying Pueblo Bonito at Emerald Bay in Mazatlan. For us it’s like going home and visiting with family. With Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay we get more than just a restful stay, we also get the best service, luxurious accommodations, beautiful views of the ocean, friendly staff and all accompanied with the warmth of the Mexican Sun.

My typical day there generally starts out with a run around the resort then I’m off to their state of the art gym facilities. After about an hour of fitness, I make my way to the spa. Their Spa facilities are nothing like I have ever experienced before. The spa has around 9 steps of relaxing enjoyment that would include a cold dip pool to the steam room and a Swedish Shower. Soon after that, I make my way back to the suite for breakfast. They have 3 different type of suites that rang from The Penthouse to The Presidential that can accommodate as many as eight guests. All of the rooms have kitchenette’s, so if you prefer to make your own breakfast and having it on your balcony over looking the ocean, you will enjoy your meal with a relaxing view. After breakfast, my wife and I make our way down to one of three pools. The main pool sports the biggest crowds along with plenty of entertainment and activities that go on all day for those of you who would like to partake. The other two pools are a bit more on the quite side, they have an adult pool (adults only) as well as the far side pool. The far side pool is located by the Bistro on the far side of the resort and all the pools have spectacular views of the ocean. The far side pool is our favorite and it’s just a few steps from The Bistro where we enjoy having our daily lunch. Shortly after lunch my wife generally will take advantage of either reading her book at pool side or participating in activity at the main pool. As for me, its all about soaking up the sun then getting some ocean swim fitness in. At around 5:00pm the sun is still very high in the sky so we’ll head back to our suite to get ready for dinner. Dinners are generally at La Cordeliere which is the most elegant restaurant there and our friend, world renowned Chef Marino, always awaits us with a smile and a table with a view along with a delectable delicacy that’s always to die for. By the time 6:30pm rolls around, my wife and I will take a walk along the beach to enjoy the sun setting into the ocean. It’s a spectacular view and quite frankly, very heavenly that can only be compared to the massage and facials we have experienced at Pueblo Bonito’s Spa throughout the week.

Our weekday evenings are generally very quiet, we either order room service from our suite or I’ll head down to the deli/market and have Rosita make us something special, we just love that lady. The weekend is all about Jump’n music and Slick DJ’s. Over the years I’ve made a great deal of friends there and in fact many of them are DJ’s like myself. Prior to us arriving, I send them all emails to inform them when they can expect us. Saturday night I have our resort call us a open air taxi, a pullmanillo which Mazatlan is famous for, and we make our first stop at Valentino’s Night Club. Valentino’s is over the top with staff members at the ready to great us as we pull up to the night club. Soon as we walk in, we are met with hugs and I’ll flip the DJ with one of my CD’s. He’s so kind, he plays it all through and that’s when it’s show time for Efren. As a method dancer in the 1980’s, I still have some moves that I enjoy sharing on the dance floor. We really feel quite safe and comfortable there as the other club goers literally move aside and enjoy watching my wife and I tear up the dance floor.

Modesto View, get your travel View on this winter, I invite you to share your travel photos with us here at The Modesto View Magazine. Send them via instagram #modestoview I’m sure many of our Modesto Viewer’s would enjoy seeing the vacation spots you journey to this Holiday Season, and if you snap a photo shot of yourself with one of our magazines in it, you just might win some Modesto View Swag.

Travel tip: The winter months are generally the slowest time of the year at any resorts in Mexico, so for most of the time that we where there, we had the resort as well as one of biggest pools to ourselves.
