Veteran Commemoration Ceremony -March 29

Throughout the nation, 50th year commemoration ceremonies are taking place this month to honor soldiers who fought in Vietnam. By proclamation of President Obama, the United States will observe and recognize Vietnam Veterans for their service. “Through this commemoration, we strive to live up to their example by showing our Vietnam veterans, their families, and all who have served the fullest respect and support of a grateful nation.” More than 3 million servicemen and women served in military duty and fought heroically to protect our nation during the Vietnam War.
The City of Modesto Commemoration will be held on March 29th to pay tribute. Local officials will be present. Congressman Jeff Denham, Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson, Modesto Police Chief Galen Carroll and Mayor Ted Brandvold will conduct the ceremony.
The Vietnam War 50th Commemorative Ceremony will be hosted by the Modesto Veteran Center, Department of Veteran Affairs at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29th at John Thurman Field, 601 Neece Drive in Modesto. This event will honor Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice.
Any living United States veteran who served on active duty in the Armed Forces at any time during the period of November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975 regardless of location are eligible to attend and receive recognition. Commemorative Vietnam Veteran lapel pins will be presented to vets who attend.
The Veteran Center of Modesto provides services to combat veterans and offers help with PTSD counseling and assessment services, medical disorder referrals, court set up and more. This event is free and open to the public. The ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. Lunch will be served following the commemoration.
