Community in Art

Community was the emphasis of the evening. An almost familial atmosphere could appropriately describe the reception for Entangled, a selected retrospective by Castillo and The Buddy System by Rob Fatal at the Art Space on Main, Thursday September 8th. Welcome to two impressive displays of installation art. Castillo and Fatal both discussed their contribution to their communities and the weight of their art on those experiencing them.

Castillo’s selected retrospective explores the depth and emphasis of hair. Her pieces are built around both synthetic and real human hair. On the other end of the spectrum, Fatal’s video and film installation is complex, made up of videos, photographs and recordings, not to mention explanatory words.

Once you dive in to both artists works, you’re likely to stay, whether you’re expanding an existing knowledge or acquaintance with art or becoming acquainted with the installation medium, as many people will be, for the first time. Exhibitions will be on display at the Art Space on Main through September 24, 2016. Free and open to the public daily and wheelchair accessible. Contact for hours: 209-664-9865 or 134 W. Main Street, Turlock, CA 95380
