FitView – I Double Dare You

I Double Dare You
By Efren Martinez

Congratulations to those who completed your Surgical Artistry Modesto Marathon! Now looking back, you may remember early on when you ran all those countless miles to build up your distance and endurance. You’ve ran in the cold rain, and in the heat along with aches and pains, but you sure muscled through them. At times your house might have been a mess and your laundry might have piled up to the ceiling, because your only focus was to finish what you started, The Surgical Artistry Modesto Marathon.

Again, congratulations! I’m so proud of all of you. But wait! The journey is not over, it’s just begun. As a fitness guru, I’ve never settled for just one fitness accomplishment only to go back to being an arm-chair athlete. Let me reinforce this train of thought; prior to your marathon you spent months training your mind, body, and soul. Through those training months you’ve not only learned how to eat healthier, but you also learned how to discipline yourself through your accomplishments. Because of that you are now living a healthier lifestyle and today you can say, “I am marathon finisher.”

Don’t throw it all away, it’s April 1st and by now you’ve recovered from SAMM. Now is the time to jump back into it and plan your next 2 races. I double dare you to do so. On May 7th is Brocchini Farm’s Rina’s Run 1/2 marathon and 5K with a familiar sponsor; The Surgical Artistry. On May 28th is The Modesto Memorial Classic 5k and 1 mile race. As of April 1st you now have a little more than a month away to get ready for another race day. Your conditioning is still there after your marathon, now you just have to continue to feed it with running as often as you can to maintain it. You’ve worked so hard prior to SAMM, don’t toss it away just because you finished one marathon. For me, eating right and fitness is a lifestyle, racing is just an added bonus that allows me to be amongst the happiest and healthiest people I know, people just like you.

About the Author:

I answered the call back in 1983; mixing Music and Entertainment with an eccentric European style has always come easy for me. In the early 80's I was the Disc Jockey for most of the high school dances in Modesto. In the late 80's I found myself in Hollywood working as a dancer and sound engineer for various professional recording industries. In 1990 my wife of 25 years and I started (The Quake Mobile DJ ®) which was seeded from San Francisco's 1985, The Quake, radio station that only lasted a short while on the air. 26 years later The Quake Mobile DJ is bigger & better than ever in the Entertainment industry. Real-Estate, photojournalism, event promoter, saving animals, travel and fitness are a few other of my interests. I also enjoy motivational speaking to children and to those who are struggling with addiction. In my life, I have always been a very direct person and once I see a goal I won't quit till I've achieved it. But out of all of the above I feel in my heart that the best inspiration in my life is my wife and my love for the faith that I practice. Phil 4:20
