Center Stage Conservatory presents its 2018 Season opener ‘A Lie of the Mind’ written by the Sam Shepard January 5-21

Center Stage Conservatory has become a local landmark for all things Sam Shepard, starting with their explosive production of ‘True West’ in 2014 and followed up the following year with ‘Fool for Love’. After the loss of Sam Shepard this past summer, CSC hosted a night to celebrate the late Pulitzer prize winning playwright where the community was able to share energy with others who have been impacted by the man and his body of work through personal stories and readings of his texts. Continuing that celebration CSC opens their 2018 season: An exploration of the individual vs. society with ‘A Lie of the Mind’. CSC’s artistic director, Traci Sky Sprague has brought together a very special cast of artists who all bring their own Shepard stories to the table. A Lie of the Mind’ begins on Friday, January 5 and the show runs through Sunday January 21.

Hailed as Sam Shepherd’s richest and most penetrating play, ‘A Lie of the Mind’ explores family dysfunction and the nature of love set against the backdrop of the gritty America West. Told in three acts, the story alternates between two families in the wake of a severe and life-altering incident of domestic abuse. Marked by Shepard’s measured humor, heart, and steady eye in examining humanity’s potential for both compassion and destruction, the two stories collide, where the tensions that separate the families grow increasingly disturbing and dangerous.
