Holiday Fun Runs

Holiday Fun Runs
By Efren Martinez

Heads up!
Between October 31st and January 1st many Americans will add on roughly an extra 6 lbs during the Holiday’s. It’s starts Halloween night as we sample many of the treats we are suppose to be handing out to the trick-or-treaters fallowed by some double dipping from our kid’s Halloween candy bag the next few days. From there on it’s all downhill with multiple meals on Thanksgiving as we make our way to grandmas house and every other Thanksgiving meal we’ve been invited to that day.

By Thanksgiving we will be at the halfway point to putting on those extra-unwanted pounds. But wait, we still have Christmas and all the delightful tasting followed by the big New Years’ celebration that’s packed with excellent spirits and high calorie delectable delights. Friends, I have a solution to be able to keep the party going till 2015 while minimizing those unwanted pounds.

Take advantage of the 2 Holiday charity runs this year. On Thanksgiving morning it’s the annual MJC Turkey Trot that is a 5K race at the Toulume River Park. The race/walk is a great way to start off your Thanksgiving Day and if you’re not exactly up for a 5K run/walk, right now is the time to start to train for it. Shortly after the Turkey Trot is another fantastic charity run, the 5th annual Jingle Bell Spirit of Giving Run. This race/walk happens December 13th, Saturday, and it’s also a 5K along with a kid’s free fun run. This year the children will seek out the Grinch in Modesto’s own Downtown Plaza and chase him out of town to save Christmas. There will also be a wellness festival and a canned food drive to help out our friends in need this holiday season. Both these races are a great way to help out our community and your fight to combat those unwanted holiday pounds.

So go ahead, have that extra slice of Pumpkin Pie; you’ve worked for it with your mind, body and soul.

Happy Holidays from your Modesto View fitness editor Efren j
