Tra la it’s March!
For the past few months I have been rehearsing with my classmates for our schools’ theater production of Camelot! Why Camelot? Well, when our director Mr. Johnson was a student, Downey would bus in schools to see their productions. After seeing his first live show, Mr. Johnson was HOOKED on the arts, especially drama. In recent years at Downey, Mr. Johnson has produced many amazing performances. You might remember Little Shop of Horrors, West Side Story, Bye, Bye Birdie and Our Town. Downey’s shows have become super popular. Now Camelot is being presented. It is a story of triumph and love in a mystical place in historic England. It is also an honor as it was the show that started it all for Mr. Johnson. Come see how Downey productions incorporate the drama, choir and band departments. And also, congratulations to Mr. Johnson. After leading an exciting life of travel and teaching, Mr. Johnson is retiring with 29 years of service to Downey High School. Come see this special production of Camelot playing at Downey on March 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th at 7:30pm and a matinee on March 20th at 2:00pm. Buy your tickets online at www.showtix4u.com.

Now as my friends all know, not only am I passionate about the theater; I am also totally in love with international travel. This summer I got to experience the most important and influential trip of my life. Along with two of my best friends, I travelled as a youth ambassador to Kurume, Japan. Staying with my new friend, Momoka, I learned about Japanese culture and lifestyle. Later that summer, our family had the honor of hosting my dear friend Momoka. Applications for summer exchanges in both Japan and France are starting. Seriously, talk to your parents; traveling and hosting are both life changing experiences for the whole family.
