Once one of my favorite employees at Guitar Center—and hands down the most helpful when it came to purchasing DJ gear and music equipment—Jason Gully has since gone on to start his own business, 1 Stop DJ Shop, a go-to spot for live event equipment and sound gear.
He’s also been a major force behind local hip–hop scene, regularly hosting Skratcher DJ sessions and consistently showing love and support for the culture. Jason’s been doing this for as long as I’ve known him—and that consistency matters.

What is your DJ background?
I got into DJing by buying a Radio Shack mixer. I just wanted to mix music, and something about two songs playing together had me drawn in.
I’ve seen you guys have Skratcher DJ events there at the shop. What are those like?
I am Hip Hop. Part of the DJ culture is scratchin’ and we have get togethers with many like minded DJ’s and cutters where we scratch and cut over a variety of Hip Hop loops.
Tell me a bit about this upcoming DJ Battle?
The Wheels of Steel DJ Battle is coming to the 209, brought to you by myself and B Boy Vidal to bring some fresh energy and excitement to the local DJ scene! It’s open to all DJs 21 and over and strictly vinyl-only. To enter, submit a 1-minute scratch video showing off your skills—tag @1stopdjshop on Instagram/Facebook or email it to 1stopdjshopmodesto@gmail.com by April 30, 2025. The top 8 entries will be selected and notified on May 1.
The live battle will feature blind scratch rounds and 2-minute sets with provided beats. We’ll supply Technics SL1200MK2s and a Pioneer DJM-S7 (you can bring your own mixer if you prefer). DJs must bring their own slipmats, needles, records, headphones—and most importantly, their skills.

The inspiration behind the event is to represent the rich DJ and Hip Hop culture we have out here in the Central Valley.
