This photo was taken at the Stanislaus County Fairground in Turlock, CA on April 2, 1948 by a Modesto Bee photographer. This was a celebration honoring me as Stanislaus County’s Gold Nugget Baby as the first baby born on the 100th anniversary of discovery of gold at Sutter’s Creek: January 24, 1848. It was a special honor for our family to be a part of the statewide centennial celebration. My older sisters, Charlene and Louanne, too part in all the activities. All counties in California were encouraged to celebrate the centennial of the discovery of gold. People dressed in the attire of the 1848 era, men grew beards, many activities were held including honoring our county’s gold Nugget Baby – me, George Allen Rogers.
