Downey ‘60
We used to come downtown as many
nights as we could. We would be there
to make sure out of town guys didn’t try
to get our girls. The drag racing was out
on Blue Gum, out past the state hospital.
It wasn’t really a big ceremony, go
to the stop sign and then drag. Some of
the races were crazy and some ended in
crashes. We raced on Claribel & also
Rose on a little strip that was“managed”
by the Bettencourts.
