It was gene Winfield that first started
doing the Candy Apple paint jobs,
his shop was over on Colorado before
moving behind MJC. A lot of the music
was at the California Ballroom and
the Riverbank Clubhouse. They called
it “Dragging 10th” not cruising. It became
dragging because you would pull
up to a light on 10th and then drag to the
next light when it turned green.
