SwissView – Time to Yodel!

Friends, it is time to yodel. Our area has a very active Swiss Club many local people with Swiss heritage. There will be big horns, lederhosen, dirndls, accordion, dancers, youth choir, Swiss food and drink and an international Swiss experience.

The festival is a four-day event that begins with a Welcome Reception Thursday evening, June 22nd at the Doubletree Hotel and Convention Center in Modesto, CA. The Grand Concert will take place on Friday, June 23rd, at the Gallo Center for the Arts, Mary Stuart Rodgers Theater, featuring approximately 250 singers from the eleven participating societies of the Pacific Coast and Canada. Saturday, June 24th the Folk Festival will be held at the San Joaquin Valley Swiss Club in Ripon at 10:45 a.m. There will be food and liquid refreshments available for purchase, Lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m. The Mitchell Gander – Ron Scheiber Orchestra will be playing dance music in the hall from 7:00-11:30pm and outside in the patio area we will have the Amibuebe Schwyzerörgeli Trio (3 gentlemen playing a typical Swiss button accordion). The four-day festival will conclude Sunday, June 25th with the Grand Banquet at the Modesto Convention Center, adjacent to the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto.

Modesto Olympian Suzy Powell Roos is part of this Swiss society and will be a key part of these festivities. The festival Festival President is Heidi Betschart. For more details and updates, please check out the website at www.swisssongfest2017.com

About the Author:

Chris Murphy is the President and CEO of Sierra Pacific Warehouse Group and Publisher and Founder of ModestoView Inc. Chris worked globally in the cycling industry returning to Modesto in 1996. He is also the founder of the Modesto Historic Graffiti Cruise Route, Legends of the Cruise Walk of Fame, Modesto Rockin’ Holiday, the Modesto Music History Organization and co-founder of the Modesto Area Music Association. Chris is married to his artist wife Rebecca since 1985 and has two daughters Madison and Abigail, both graduating from Modesto High and UC Berkeley. He is lead singer and guitarist for his band, Third Party that donates their performances to non-profits.
