Hey, readers and writers! Poetry month wrapped up with a bang, and summer is now calling. If you missed the fun (fun=readings by California poet laureate Lee Herrick, Soul Vang, Gary Thomas and Zoe Byron, poetry workshops, poetry nights and a haiku battle), check out the calendars on @bookish_modesto, @queenbean_coffeehouse and @mostpoetry.
Second Tuesday Poetry, sponsored by Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center, has been hopping—full crowds and a spirited open mic. If you’re a poet or just love listening to poetry, join us at Bookish on Tuesday, May 13 @ 7pm. Featured poets are Rosa Lane and Stockton’s own Tama Brisbane.
We’re celebrating Children’s Book Week on May 5-11 with special storytimes, crafts, activities and a visit from the dancers of Central West Ballet’s upcoming Sleeping Beauty production on May 17 and 18 at the Gallo Center.
We’ll also be announcing some big summer plans: reading challenges for everyone from babies to adults, a city-wide Where’s Waldo? scavenger hunt, a middle-grade parent-child book club, art lessons and immersive storytelling experiences beginning in June! Visit www.bookishmodesto.com<www.bookishmodesto.com> for more info.
And fiction writers, we haven’t forgotten about you! Keep an eye out for some summertime writing sessions. Here’s to a book-filled summer!.
