Legendary climbers Liz and Royal Robbins spent most of their time enjoying the wonders of Yosemite Valley from their home base here in Modesto. They lived and breathed adventure, with Royal as a Camp 4 regular and international climber and Liz as the first woman to ever climb Half Dome. Whatever they did, “…it was always unconventional,” says Liz—which also applied to the sub-par clothing they owned during their initial iconic climbs together.
Liz and Royal started selling what they knew, which evolved into versatile outdoor apparel and their business continued to grow with the goal always being to create functional, durable, and stylish products with a lower impact on the planet.
The brand re-released Royal Robbins’s series of autobiographies in a 3-volume booklet. Visit the Modesto store from 12-2 p.m. March 18 to meet Liz Robbins for a book signing—and enjoy refreshments, enter to win a free giveaway, and get a pair of socks with a purchase of $100 or more (while supplies last). You can feel the spirit of Royal and Liz in the local Royal Robbins store in McHenry Village and you can enjoy the spirit of Camp 4 and get amazing craft food and beverage from Royal’s son Damon.
Please see the interview we did with Royal Robbins in our October 2006 ModestoView.
