MAMA Thanks

By Chris Murphy

What a night. It is so special to be able to celebrate our music community at the beautiful State Theatre. It is a magic night loaded with amazing talent. Over 4600 people from around the world voted and 49 states were represented. We even had votes from Tonga! Music talent makes a community richer and to celebrate so many different genres from acoustic to metal and jazz is really special. Thanks to our MAMA team for a great show. The incomparable Middagh Goodwin was our host and community members helped present the various awards.

One of the special moments of the evening was celebrating the lifetime of work by Kyle Barker and a special performance with the Sensations as we took a walk down memory lane. Local legends Golden Bough won a MAMA and we had 4th grade rockers in Sound Playground and there was even a song written about the MAMAs by Randy Lofing.

Thanks to the SPWG crew of Nick and Johnny for the set up, Mark Oesau & Leonard Bowlin for the wonderful sound mixing and stage work. Jennifer Allsup ran a precision show, finishing 10 minutes early. Justin Brown delivered a great screen experience and Carlos Rodriguez produced the webcast of the show. A fair and accurate vote was created by Elliot Gage and Michelle Powers CPA audited the results with Abigail Power presenting the winning envelopes. Grace McNamara presented the beautiful stainless steel MAMA Awards made by Beeler Industries.

The MAMAs have a home at the wonderful State Theatre and huge thanks to Gabi and the State team and board members for helping us celebrate local music. These are special times and magic memories. Chris Ricci and I are so pleased that the MAMAs continue for over 23 years and the Modesto Area Music gets better and better and thanks so much to my family for supporting these community efforts.
