Mother’s Day View
By Abigail Power
Moms and those acting as mother-figures can provide support, love, and guidance for many in the community and Mother’s Day is a very special day to honor those who make us feel loved all-year long! There’s a lot of pressure to find the “perfect” gift and get it just right, but all moms are different and there are many ways to show you care. Mother’s Day gifts don’t have to cost a thing and can be simply the gift of time or a written note or drawing to celebrate this special day in May – maybe even check out the Express Library at 10th St Plaza to get inspired by a book of poetry or illustrations. If you are looking for some local gift ideas, here are a few ideas on how to let those close to you know that you are thinking of them.
* Breakfast in Bed: Let them sleep in! Either pick up fresh produce, jams, and fresh bread at the Modesto Certified Farmers Market the morning of May 10th for the perfect breakfast accoutrements OR go to We Donuts or Mr. T’s for delicious local and freshly baked donuts that Sunday morning.
* Flowers: Kelley Flower Farm is the go-to place for gorgeous flowers and arrangements. You can find Kelley Flower Farm at the Farmer’s Market on Thursday and Saturday the week of Mother’s Day to bring home some beautiful arrangements. You can also find them at 3101 Jackson Road Tues-Fri 10 AM to 6 PM and Sat 9 AM to 1 PM.
* Something Homemade: There are classes at local places all over town that can show you how to make timeless works of art for all levels of experience. Paper Habit in McHenry Village has watercolor and knitting classes (check out their retail selection and cards while you’re there!) and Make Studio on Needham has a floral arrangement class, pottery mug, and painted pot class in May all before Mother’s Day!
* Peace and Quiet: Get a book that’s right up their alley from Bookish, incense from Intrinsic Elements or candles from Mobaak, a pedicure gift card from Polished Nail, or a bottle (or two!) of wine from Camp 4 Wine Café so that they can wind down, relax, and have a few moments to themselves to enjoy some time alone.
Happy Mother’s Day! Thank you to all the parents and parent figures that are helping guide and love the next generation in our Central Valley.
