SportsView – Season Changes


Winter sports Hoopin

The city of Modesto just wrapped up its local junior high school girls’ basketball seasons and league championship tournament, too. The following schools competed in both the 7th and grade 8th grade tournament: Hanshaw, Glick, Prescott, Yolo, Mark Twain, La Loma and Roosevelt. Glick junior high won the 7th grade championship in a 31-17 win over Roosevelt. Yolo junior high from Newman won the 8th grade championship in a double overtime win over Roosevelt 37-33. Congrats to our local junior high, players and coaches on their incredible seasons and to our new tournament champions as well.

Roosevelt/La Loma: The old school rivalry between these schools has a fun season. ” Big Stick” and the Teddy Bears ” Big Bear ” and the ” Little Bear” The ” Big Stick”. Roosevelt flag football team won the first games and tied La Loma in their 2nd match up, there for Roosevelt will keep the “Big Stick” . For girls’ basketball, Roosevelt took game one for both grades. The 2nd match up Roosevelt 7th garde took the win 14-4 over and brought the ” Little Bear” back to Roosevelt, the 8th grade game La Loma got the win 17-10 and will keep the ” Big Bear” going into the fall of girls’ volleyball season.

Girls Basketball:
Enochs: Chris Ramsay leads his team to 7-3 overall, with junior, Aliva Pierce with 124 points and 51 assets.
Downey: Coach Nixon team is lead by sophomore, Danica Flores with 111 points and senior, Zadie Carraway with 86 rebounds.
Johansen: Head coach, Derrick McLaughlin has team led by seniors, Amelia Medearis with 79 points & Danna Singh with 21 steals
Boys Basketball:
Johansen: Head coach Chris Salazar team (7-2) overall is senior heavy with Jonny Chavez 88 points, Ivan Martinez 87 points, Julian Davis 72 points.
Central Catholic: Head coach Mike Wilson (5-4) overall, is led by senior, Jordan Magana with 116 points & 26 steals along with junior, Amari Waterford with 93 points.
Downey: Head coach Mitchell Evans, his team is led by junior, Solomon Paris with 114 points this season.

Soccer:
Mohi: Head coach Sofia Tadeo leads her varsity roster of 23 players & (6-2) overall, juniors Bria Eastman has 5 steals and Alexa Robles has 5 goals this season.
Mohi: Head coach Victor Perez leads his varsity roster of 24 players with (7-4-3) overall, led by junior, Alexander Rodriguez Perez has 13 goals, sophomore, Luis Hernandez 49 saves.
Enochs: Head coach Gilbert Ybarra(3-4-2) overall. Led by junior, Jordyn Beasly 3 goals.
Beyer: Head coach Chris Tuers leads his team with (10-1) overall. Led by juniors, Natalee Campbell 11 goals, Brisa Daley 10 goals and freshman, Olivia Daley 7 goals this season.

Now we get ready for spring after the winter break. I will be out there coaching and keep informed about the spring sports.
