MJC Visiting Author Series hosts An Evening with Richard Harrison

The Modesto Junior College Visiting Author Series presents An Evening with Richard Harrison on Tuesday, March 6 at 7 p.m. in Forum 110 on East Campus, 435 College Avenue, Modesto. A question-and-answer session and book signing will follow the author’s reading. The event is free and open to the public. Campus parking is $2 without a permit.

Harrison is the author of six books of critically praised poetry, including “On Not Losing My Father’s Ashes in the Flood” (2016), winner of the Governor-General’s Award for Poetry, as well as winner of the 2017 Writers Guild of Alberta Prize for Poetry, and a finalist for the City of Calgary Book Prize and Montana’s High Plains Poetry Prize.

Harrison’s “Hero of the Play,” poems in the language of hockey, a book that will soon celebrate its 25th year in print, was launched both at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto and the Saddledome, home rink of the NHL’s Calgary Flames.

Harrison is a professor of English and creative writing at Mount Royal University, where he also specializes in comics and the graphic novel. His weekly Thursday Group workshop has nurtured the talents of scores of poets over the last 15 years, and helped spawn over a dozen books of poetry in the last decade.

Harrison lives in Calgary with his wife Lisa and two children, Emma and Keeghan.

The Visiting Author Series is sponsored by the MJC Foundation and the MJC Literature and Language Arts Division. For more information on this event contact English Instructor Zaid Shlah at shlahz@mjc.edu<mailto:shlahz@mjc.edu>.
