PerformingView – May Brings the Hits

This is when we start to get the sneak peaks about the new performing arts season, but let’s pay attention to this current season as there are loads of wonderful performances in May and some fundraisers to keep our performing arts “performing”. Two big comedians hit town this month with Chelsea Handler at the Gallo on May17 and Adam Corolla at the State on May 16. Let’s laugh, we need it.

The Modesto Symphony turned 95 and the hits keep on coming with a full performance of Carmina Brana on May 8th and 9th backed up by the MSO Chorus. Later in the month, the Symphony goes Jurassic as you can enjoy the full feature film while the symphony plays the soundtrack on May 29th and 30th.

It’s Cinderella magic with the Central West Ballet’s enchanting performance of this classic. Don’t miss the prince’s ball with the help of magic mice, birds and pumpkins and so much more. This is a great ballet to start with if you haven’t been to a performance.

The season of mysteries continue at the Gallo Repertory Company.
The thrilling Dan Brown’s DaVinci Code comes to life full of twists and codes in a race against time from Paris to London and beyond.

Enjoy a great line up for May featuring Riverdance, a special Chelsea Handler performance and Broadway’s Mrs. Doubtfire. Oakdale native, now big time Alex Lucero is bringing his band back to the Gallo Center. Some of the best music ever came from the band America. Hear Sister Golden Hair, Ventura Highway and more on May 23.

On May 31, Modesto’s Grandaddy returns for the first time since the passing of Kevin Garcia and the last show at the Prospect in 2016. Do not miss this amazing show featuring the 25th Anniversary of the Sophtware Slump album.

Turlock Community Theatre has two great shows this month featuring James Garner as Johnny Cash on May 9 and American’s storyteller, Garrison Keillor takes the stage on May 23 (new date) www.Turlocktheatre.org

Tickets are hot at the State Theatre this month when comedian Adam Corolla brings his show to the State on May 16 and then Journey USA brings the tribute hits on May 22. Intermission
The food is the star with this special Food Fix night at the Intermission. Enjoy Hank Olson’s famous food in the lush lounge as a benefit for the State Theatre and celebrating downtown Modesto’s amazing culinary scene.

Coming in June is the full stage performance Present Laughter, June 12 – 28.
You can support the Prospect Theatre Project at their annual fundraiser feature the most outlandish outfit you can think of at Greens on 10th on June 6.
