Save The Depot

Save the Depot

Modesto was built around the railroad. It is the reason that our city is where it is and why it is planned out like it is. We had a lot of beautiful architecture in the 20s – 50s and most of it got demolished in the name of “seismic” in the 60s. We must preserve what little history we have left. As you can see, we lost so many of our historic structures.

Many cities fight hard to preserve their old buildings and we have a project right now that needs our help. The 1915 Southern Pacific station (originally Central Pacific) is being upgraded for the upcoming ACE train service.

We can upgrade safety AND keep the historic structure at the same time. You can see the current plans and there is a 30 day comment period so please urge the city to keep the original structure intact and save the wood walls and the craftsman furniture.
